- Chapter 34: Saintess Kaphia part 2
Well, from the looks of it, the real lady still doesn’t know who she is. There’s been a lot of rumors circulating about the search for Lady Klein, but she hasn’t made any moves.
With the help of Duke Orleans, Kaphia had planted a spy in the Duke’s estate. That spy, whom she didn’t expect much from, ended up doing something big.
Disguised as a servant, the spy searched the room of Eina Dorothea, who had entered secretly, and discovered something suspicious – a silk robe for infants.
Coming from Grace Monastery, with nothing else of note, Kaphia wondered if it might have been stolen, so she sent a report to the temple to figure out the child’s weaknesses.
A unique silk robe with a special knot. Could it be?
Kaphia had the robe brought to her while Eina Dorothea was away and immediately recognized it from before.
‘Light brown hair and blue eyes? You can’t possibly be the princess. I know exactly how you looked as a baby and growing up!’
In a hurry, Kaphia had Dorothea’s past traced and investigated the situation at Grace Monastery.
At the monastery, there was a girl named Morgana with light pink hair. Dorothea had been her close friend?
Ah, so you stole it from there, you greedy child.
“I am a sinner.”
The Saintess spoke the truth without hesitation.
At that moment, when she had suspected that Morgana was Lady Klein, if only Kaphia had opened her mouth and restored Morgana’s identity, at the very least, she could have gone to the monastery to tell everything.
The princess would have returned to her rightful place. Kaphia, too, would have relieved herself of some guilt for the things she had done.
But Kaphia didn’t do that.
She couldn’t walk the path of repentance calmly. For that, she would have to fall as a sinner, tumbling down into the abyss.
After Lady Klein’s disappearance, the Saintess began to avoid people with pink or red hair, whether male or female. It was just an instinct. Whether it was a man or a woman, I distanced myself from them all, even the holy knights.
And yet…
She quietly stayed there. At the tip of the Supreme Deity’s wings, in the lonely room of the monastery.
Kaphia subtly twisted this matter, using an informant within the Duke’s estate to inform the Duchess. And she intentionally caused Dorothea to lose consciousness, ordering that she be brought. It was to find out exactly what Dorothea was planning.
After she had lost consciousness and her mind was somewhat foggy, Kaphia continued to question her until the power of the stone ran out.
‘You, knowing full well the princess’s true identity, still desire a false position and glory. Fine. I will give you the position you desire.’
Kaphia was delighted. She had just discovered a little demon she could use at will, one she could throw into hell if she so pleased.
‘But one day, you will pay the price for everything you’ve done, and it will be a hundredfold. And it will be paid to no one else but me!’
The Saintess, thoroughly immersed in magic, glowed with a sinister light in her eyes.
* * *
Fay had roughly grasped the vast conspiracy surrounding her.
‘What should I do now?’
It was no longer just about exposing Dott’s evil deeds and seeking justice. Would Dott know about this? Whether she knew and joined hands, or was unaware, it was still terrifying.
‘I…’
From the warm window where a basket sat, the sound of a loud cry was heard.
“Beep! Beep! Beep-beep!”
“Oh, Momo.”
“Beep-eeeek!”
Momo, seemingly unaware, appeared to be in quite a good mood. His chubby side bulging as he shook his bottom was rather cute. After reuniting with Lucius, he had been a bit sulky, but now, he was completely carefree.
The fact that he seemed happier now, with her relationship with Lucius having become somewhat distant, made him even more likable.
Yes, at least you’re happy. Not everyone has to live a life full of misfortune, right?
“Fufu.”
After a long time, Fay smiled and, that afternoon, met an unexpected visitor. She had steeled herself, trying to suppress the tears that threatened to come from recalling old painful memories, and greeted him.
“Hello, Leon… no, Young Lord Klein.”
Kassel’s crimson eyes were clouded with unspeakable sorrow, and he spoke the words as stiffly as she did.
“You can just call me Kassel, Fay.”
“Then, please just call me Fay as well, Young Lord Kassel.”
“Understood, Fay.”
The man and woman took a step back, each giving the other space, then looked at each other intently.
Fay couldn’t bring herself to say the words that should have been said, congratulating him for finding his lost sister. Those words just wouldn’t come out.
If she were facing Dott, she would have gladly said it.
I congratulate you for finding your true identity and wish you well as a noble princess in the future.
She could easily face the wicked Dott, who hid a dagger behind her tongue. But for Kassel in front of her, she felt no urge to throw out any venomous words.
He too, oddly, never mentioned the princess.
This was a blood relative he had lost as a child, so it couldn’t be that he was indifferent. There must be some other reason… that’s what she wanted to believe.
“I simply wanted to see you, Fay, and came without any prior appointment. I apologize for my rudeness.”
“No, it’s fine!”
Honestly, she was glad. Fay, momentarily losing the self-control she had been suppressing, absentmindedly scanned him up and down.
Do we resemble each other in any way?
The biological brother she had met after learning her true identity didn’t have the same appearance as the Duke and Duchess.
She had heard that from time to time, strong warriors emerged from the Klein Duke’s family, but since he doesn’t resemble the Duke, maybe he resembled an ancestor from the past.
Perhaps it was because, like Kassel, Fay herself didn’t resemble the Duke and Duchess much either, but this thought lingered more as her heart focused on Kassel’s future situation.
……
(T/N: From here on, I think Fay will be soft-hearted towards her biological family more)
